Position Description

Workshop/Group Excursion Facilitator

  • $22.15/hr plus 5% in lieu of vacation. 
  • Mileage compensation.
  • Paid sick time after one year.
  • 0-20 hours per week with the potential to build to full time
  • Flexibility required, available days, evening and weekends

Qualifications:

  • Energetic and enthusiastic, with the ability to motivate others
  • Compassionate and caring, with the ability to set healthy boundaries
  • A team player, understanding that each person brings value and unique qualities to the table
  • A fun loving attitude with the desire to empower others to achieve their goals
  • BSW, SSW, DSW, CSW or equivalent Human Services Diploma required. Therapeutic Recreation Certification is an asset.
  • Experience working with adults with developmental disabilities
  • Experience working with groups, in a leadership or facilitation role
  • Proficient with Google docs, excel, calendar applications and the use of mobile apps such as When I work and Wagepoint
  • Experience with Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok business accounts
  • A class G driver's license with clean drivers abstract
  • Access to a reliable vehicle required, a minivan is considered an asset.  Transporting individuals is a mandatory component of this position.
  • Available to work days, evenings and occasional weekends
  • The ability to develop and maintain your own schedule, following documentation procedures as required
  • The ability to develop an easy to follow curriculum in a variety of formats designed to meet the needs of the individuals you are supporting.
  • The ability to develop and follow budgets, costing out programs and expenses as needed.
  • Clear criminal reference check with vulnerable sector completed within 3 months of application.  

Job description:

  • Reporting directly to the program director, the facilitator will design and deliver engaging small group workshops to teach valuable life skills to adults with disabilities. 
  • You will encourage growth and the development of purpose in individuals with disabilities who may also be struggling with mental health, addictions, past trauma, and discrimination.
  • Through small group trips, you will build joy in the lives of the individuals we support.  Encouraging them to try new things, develop new interests and believe in themselves by overcoming obstacles and fears in their life.  This is an adventure-based program.  Any limitations, including fears and/or phobias you may have must be disclosed at time of interview as this may impact the services we currently provide.
  • You will support and assist in building new friendships between individuals, thereby increasing their social network and building a circle of support for each individual. 
  • You will develop a monthly calendar of activities, including but not limited to; small workshops, health and fitness based activities, educational activities, art based activities and out of town trips.
  • You will assist in planning and running our overnight camp in Muskoka each year, as well as other major trips and events such as our summer celebration and Christmas party.
  • You will engage with the individuals we support, their families and community members through our social media pages.
