Position Title: Pastoral Care and Seniors Pastor
Department: Congregational Life
Reports to: Congregational Life Pastor
Direct Reports: None
Status: Full time
Schedule: Variable, including Sundays and evenings and weekends as required
Position Overview:
The Pastoral Care and Seniors Pastor is passionate about leading our congregation to embrace community and live into our mission as a gospel-centered, globally engaged church. The incumbent will divide their time between providing Pastoral Care to adults in our congregation and leading the Seniors and Visitation Ministries. This Pastor also equips and mobilizes lay leaders and a large team of volunteers to support and care for our adult congregants and our Seniors and Visitation Ministries.
Major Responsibilities:
- Pastoral Care for adults at The Peoples Church. This may include providing congregants with spiritual formation and prayer, pastoral counselling, pre-marital counselling for couples, weddings, baptism and communion, as well as comprehensive support for end-of-life care, funeral planning, officiating and follow-up bereavement support
- Raise up, lead, shepherd, equip, empower and disciple the lay-leaders of the Seniors Ministry
- Raise up, lead, shepherd, equip, empower and disciple the lay-leaders of the Visitation Ministry
- Support the implementation of the Adults Ministry Framework, as directed by the Congregational Life (CL) Pastor, working in collaboration with the Life Groups and Newcomers Pastors, to create meaningful opportunities for our people to grow in their discipleship, experience Christ, embrace community and engage globally
- On-going relationship development with congregants to know the congregation and contribute to church-wide efforts to raise up lay leaders. This includes participation in all Sunday services, participation on Sunday Prayer team, and engagement in other church festivals
- Occasionally teach in various Adult Ministries (e.g. Seniors, Young Adults, Friendship Class, Visitation Ministry training)
- Occasionally preach or host services if within gifting and as invited by the Lead Pastor
- Develop and oversee systems and structure to support ongoing ministry growth and health and to meet the spiritual, discipleship and connection needs of our church body, inperson and online.
- Regularly meet with the Congregational Life Pastor for on-going mentoring and leadership development
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Is a mature follower in Jesus Christ with an abiding passion to see people grow deeper in their walk with Jesus and with able to disciple, equip, train and empower others.
- A shepherd, with a pastoral heart, gifted in caring for people
- Gifted in discernment and prayer
- Experience and gifting in mentoring people in spiritual life and personal maturity
- Experience and gifting in pastoral care and visitation
- Has a minimum of 3–5 years of ministry leadership experience in a church or equivalent ministry context
- Proven experience and gifting in managing volunteers, raising up and discipling lay leaders
- Must be an ordained minister or open to ordination under the Peoples Church.
- Must understand and support The Peoples Church’s Vision, Mission and Values and Statement of Faith
- A relevant university degree or college diploma (theological education) is preferred
- Experience working in multicultural and multiethnic contexts, enhancing Biblical unity within the diversity within which God created us
- Has strong communication skills both verbal and written
- Committed to serving others, supporting staff, and cultivating team ministry
- Able to articulate a vision and motivate others to participate
- A self-starter who also works collaboratively and enthusiastically with others.
- Able to perform basic administration to contribute to congregant and Ministry records, and to understand budgets
Working Conditions:
- Interacts with others (volunteers, staff, congregants) regularly
- Pastoral level position which involves working flexible hours
- Occasional travel both locally and globally
- Must attend The Peoples Church
- Full time – Sundays are mandatory, with some weekends and evenings
- Vulnerable Sector clearance required
- Support and understand Vision, Mission and Values and Statement of Faith
