Position Description

Synopsis of Role

The Next Gen Pastor provides pastoral leadership and oversight for Heartland’s ministry to children, youth, and their families. This role champions a unified discipleship strategy for the next generation, equips volunteers, and partners with parents to support faith formation at every stage. The Next Gen Pastor creates environments where children and teens encounter Jesus, grow in faith, and feel a deep sense of belonging within the life of the church.

Duties & Responsibilities

Leadership & Vision:

  • Provide vision and oversight for all ministry areas from birth through high school.
  • Align children’s and youth ministry with Heartland’s mission, values, and discipleship goals.
  • Lead a cohesive strategy that fosters lifelong faith formation and church engagement.

Team Building & Volunteer Development:

  • Recruit, train, and encourage volunteers for children’s and youth ministry.
  • Support ministry leaders through coaching, appreciation, and clear communication.
  • Promote a culture of joy, safety, and excellence in all next-gen environments.

Program Oversight:

  • Provide primary teaching and communication for Kids Church on Sundays and youth gatherings (Friday nights).
  • Oversee the development and implementation of engaging and age-appropriate programming for children and youth.
  • Lead or support youth gatherings during the week, including teaching and small groups.
  • Explore and help pilot midweek discipleship opportunities as ministry capacity and volunteer leadership allow.
  • Ensure safe ministry practices, including adherence to Plan to Protect.

Family Engagement & Support:

  • Partner with parents by providing tools, communication, and encouragement for faith at home.
  • Offer parent connection points and help integrate families into the wider church community.
  • Be available to support families during key spiritual and developmental moments.

Collaboration & Integration:

  • Work collaboratively with the pastoral team to support shared events and services.
  • Ensure next-gen ministries are connected to the broader life and worship of the church.
  • Attend staff meetings and contribute to team planning, prayer, and mission.

Qualifications

  • A growing and mature relationship with Jesus Christ.
  • Experience in pastoral ministry with children, youth, or family ministry.
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills with the ability to build and manage teams.
  • Relational, energetic, and passionate about equipping the next generation.
  • Strong communicator in both group and one-on-one settings.
  • Bachelor’s degree from a recognized Bible college or seminary.
  • Credentialed with the PAOC or willing to pursue credentials.
  • Committed to safe ministry practices and relational integrity.
  • Aligned with the mission and values of Heartland, A Church Connected.
