Position Description
The Pastor of Next Generation Ministries will provide leadership, vision, and oversight for Bromley’s kids and youth ministries, and Shine On Summer Camp. Additionally, this role is responsible for overseeing Bromley’s Policy on Children’s Ministry Protection, ensuring the safety of all participants, and administering necessary training and screening processes. The Pastor of Next Generation Ministries will also have the opportunity to preach throughout the year, contributing to the spiritual growth of the entire congregation. Occasionally, this role will be called on for other opportunities to serve at Bromley.
Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in theology, Christian ministry, or a related field (or equivalent ministry training). A Master’s degree in a related field would be an asset.
Experience:
- 3–5 years of pastoral/ministry leadership with children, youth, or young adults.
- Experience building and leading teams of volunteers.
- Experience integrating next-gen ministry into the wider mission of the church.
- Cross-cultural ministry experience would be an asset.
Character & Calling:
- Clear testimony of faith in Jesus Christ and evidence of ongoing spiritual growth.
- A strong sense of calling to vocational ministry, particularly with the next generation.
- Agreement with your church’s statement of faith and vision.
- A heart for evangelism and discipleship.
- Demonstrated track record of longevity and faithfulness in prior ministry roles is ideal.
- A pastoral heart with emotional maturity and healthy boundaries.
Skills:
- Strong communication and relational skills with both students and parents.
- Ability to work collaboratively with church staff and volunteers.
- Administrative competence (planning, organization, follow-up).
- Ability to work independently.
- Preaching/teaching experience would be an asset.
- Musical/worship leadership ability would be an asset.
- Comfort with technology and social media in ministry contexts.
- Experience working at or running a summer camp would be an asset.
Key Responsibilities
Children’s Ministry: (Birth-Grade 5)
- Develop a clear vision for kids’ ministry at Bromley and articulate a strategy and goals to achieve it.
- Provide overall leadership and oversight to the Sunday morning kids’ ministry, ensuring that the program is a biblically sound, engaging, safe, organized, and age-appropriate environment for kids.
- Recruit, train, and support a team of volunteers to teach and assist in kids’ ministry.
- Select and implement a curriculum that aligns with the church’s mission and theological values.
- Partner with parents to equip them as the primary spiritual influencers in their kid’s lives.
Shine On Summer Camp:
- Lead the planning and execution of the Shine On Summer Camp program.
- Develop and implement camp programming that is fun, Christ-centred, and developmentally appropriate.
- Recruit, hire, and supervise summer camp staff, including providing training, mentoring, and ongoing support.
- Manage the camp budget and ensure all operations comply with relevant regulations and safety standards.
- Research and apply for grants to offset camp costs.
Youth Ministry: (Grades 6-12)
- Develop a clear vision for youth ministry at Bromley and set goals to achieve it.
- Shepherd and disciple youth towards a deeper commitment to Christ.
- Plan and execute a dynamic mid-week program for youth that fosters spiritual growth, fellowship, and service.
- Build meaningful relationships with youth, providing pastoral care and spiritual guidance.
- Organize events, retreats, and service opportunities to engage youth and encourage their involvement in the broader life of the church.
- Equip and mentor volunteer leaders to assist in youth ministry.
- Partner with parents to support the faith development of their teenagers.
Protection Policy and Safety Oversight:
- Administer Bromley’s Policy on Children’s Ministry Protection (the “Protection Policy”) to ensure the safety of all children, youth, and vulnerable individuals.
- Administer regular training for staff and volunteers on the Protection Policy, including best practices for child and youth safety.
- Facilitate the completion of police background checks for all staff and volunteers working with children and youth.
- Regularly review and update the Protection Policy in consultation with the Leadership Team to ensure compliance with current standards and regulations.
Preaching and Congregational Engagement:
- Opportunity to preach throughout the year, contributing to the spiritual growth and discipleship of the congregation.
- Collaborate with the Lead Pastor to align messages with Bromley’s mission and vision.
- Integrate fully into the body of Christ at Bromley.
Administrative and General Responsibilities:
- Develop and manage budgets for kids’ and youth ministries in collaboration with the Lead Pastor and Leadership Team.
- Communicate regularly with parents, volunteers, and the congregation about ministry updates and opportunities.
- Collaborate with other church staff and leaders to integrate kids’ and youth ministries into the broader mission and vision of the church.
- Ensure compliance with all church policies, including safety and security protocols.
- Other agreed upon responsibilities from time to time related to the church.
Terms and Conditions of Employment
- Full-time position (37.5 hours per week)
- Availability on Sundays, some evenings, and during Shine On Summer Camp (i.e. July and August) is required
- The expectation is that the Pastor of Next Generation Ministries works in-office
- Able to obtain a positive Police Records Check for Service in the Vulnerable Sector
- Be willing to commit to the mission, vision, and core values of BRBC
