Position Description
Chapel Place Church is an evangelical church that seeks to uphold the authority of Scripture. Our spiritual goal is the salvation of sinners and the sanctification of saints.
Chapel Place is seeking a full-time Pastor to serve as the spiritual leader of the English-speaking congregation, with the long-term goal of becoming a fully developed church alongside the Arabic-speaking congregation.
The Pastor will be appointed by the Session of Chapel Place and will work closely with a leadership team appointed by the Session, reporting directly to the Chapel Place Senior Minister.
The Pastor should be devoted to personal holiness and spiritual growth. He should demonstrate a prayerful dependence on God throughout his ministry, as well as love for God’s people.
Chapel Place is currently considered a “departing congregation” from the Presbyterian Church in Canada.
Responsibilities of the Pastor include:
- Maintain and pursue personal spiritual growth, as well as the qualifications of a Pastor as outlined in Scripture (1 Timothy 3, Titus 1, 1 Peter 5).
- Remain accountable to the church’s Session.
- Faithfully and regularly teach and preach the Word of God during Sunday morning services and various other settings.
- Lead the congregation in Lord’s Day Worship as well as oversee all aspects of the worship service.
- Lead the congregation in prayer in Sunday services and prayer meetings, as well as by personal example.
- Administer sacraments (Lord’s Supper and Baptism) in accordance with Presbyterian beliefs and practices.
- In collaboration with ministry leads, lead and direct the following ministries:
- Junior High (ages 10-12)
- Youth and Young Adults (ages 13-21; high school and university)
- The English Adult Ministry (ages 22+)
- Chapel Place Sports Camp (community summer camp)
- Provide pastoral care and counselling to the congregation through the coordination of small groups and through one-to-one meetings.
- Identify, develop, and mentor leaders in various ministries to equip them to lead well and grow in spiritual maturity.
- Attend Session meetings as required.
- Manage the English ministry budget in coordination with ministry leads.
- Be actively involved in the local community through outreach ministries and evangelism.
- Serve cohesively with other members of the pastoral staff, affirming a spirit of unity and mutual respect.
Required Qualifications
- A calling to full-time church ministry and a commitment to Presbyterian doctrines and practices.
- Clear evidence of a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and a commitment to growing in Christ-likeness.
- An accredited degree in theological studies (masters level degree in theology considered an asset).
- A passion for discipling the next generation to love Jesus and grow in their faith.
- A strong commitment to one’s own spiritual, emotional, and physical well-being.
- A pastoral heart and the ability to connect well with people from various backgrounds and ages.
Other Qualifications:
- 5+ years experience in church leadership or equivalent ministry experience.
- Ability to obtain a Vulnerable Sector Screening / Police Record Check.
- Proficient oral and written communication skills.
