The Young Adults (YA) Pastor’s primary objective is to develop young adults (ages 18 – 30yrs) as Jesus-centered disciples and to help them clarify and live out their unique God-given callings at home, work, school and beyond. This role provides pastoral leadership to a generation of emerging leaders, shepherding them in alignment with Cornerstone’s mission and helping them cultivate a biblical worldview within an increasingly post-Christian and complex cultural landscape.
The YA Pastor will create environments where young adults can encounter Jesus, grow in faith, build meaningful relationships, and be equipped to lead in the way of Jesus, both now and into the future. Central to this role is helping young adults see themselves as an integral part of the wider body of Christ at Cornerstone, encouraging meaningful participation, service, and leadership across the full life of the church.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone with strong pastoral discipleship and people development skills. The ideal candidate is biblically grounded, deeply prayerful, culturally attuned, and relationally wise, in order to help this generation navigate their current cultural context as faithful followers of Jesus.
Primary Responsibilities
- Discipleship: Equip, resource and empower young adults to grow spiritually, mentally, and emotionally as lifelong followers of Jesus, helping them practice discipleship within both young adult contexts and the broader, intergenerational life of the church.
- Leadership Development: Mobilize, coach, and empower young adults to serve on leadership teams within the YA ministry and across Cornerstone’s broader ministries, helping them discern and steward their gifts in intergenerational contexts both within and beyond the church.
- Gatherings: Create mid to larger-size spaces for young adults to gather and to invite their friends, where relationships can be formed, organic conversations about faith can happen, and discipleship can grow, in ways that complement Cornerstone’s wider worshipping and serving rhythms. Examples of such spaces are mid-week gatherings, community events and retreats.
- Outreach: In collaboration with the Outreach Director, mobilize young adults to serve in local and global outreaches and mission trips.
- Groups: In collaboration with the Group Life Pastor, create small-group environments for young adults focused on relationship-building and discipleship, while helping young adults find appropriate connection points within Cornerstone’s broader group life.
- Care - Provide pastoral care, mentoring, counselling and support to young adults, being consistently present and accessible to them as their pastor.
- Other responsibilities as assigned from time to time by Executive Team.
Professional Skills
- Master’s degree in theological studies.
- 3+ years of experience in a ministry or church environment, working with young adults preferred.
- Demonstrated background in pastoral leadership, discipleship, counseling, and/or people development.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Self-motivated, self-directed, requiring minimal supervision.
- Excellent collaboration skills with peers, teamwork orientation with strong relationship management skills.
Qualifications and Staff Values Alignment
The successful candidate will demonstrate alignment with Cornerstone’s staff values and culture, including:
- Jesus-centred: A clearly evident, Christ-centred life marked by spiritual maturity, prayerfulness, and a growing dependence on Jesus in both personal life and ministry leadership.
- Teamwork: A collaborative spirit with the ability to work well alongside staff, volunteers, and ministry leaders, contributing to a unified staff team and shared ownership of Cornerstone’s mission.
- Communication: Strong and healthy communication skills, demonstrating clarity, humility, and respect in both verbal and written interactions, and a commitment to addressing issues directly and constructively.
- Learning mindset: A posture of curiosity, teachability, and continuous growth, with a willingness to receive feedback, adapt, and develop personally, spiritually, and professionally.
- Trust: A proven track record of integrity, emotional maturity, and reliability, fostering trust through consistency, transparency, and responsible stewardship of relationships and resources.
