Position Description

Peno Creek Renewal Center is a not-for-profit Christian organization located on a farm on the North Saskatchewan river in Lamont county, Alberta. Our mission is to offer a space for individuals in need of spiritual renewal such as those facing substance abuse, broken family lives, or periods of deep grief to be transformed by Christ and engage in a meaningful community. We provide a sanctuary for guests to heal, grow, and re-enter the world equipped with practical skills and renewed hope in Christ.

We are seeking a compassionate, dedicated Director to oversee the operations of the center and provide leadership in guiding guests through their spiritual and personal renewal journeys. This includes overseeing staff, programs, finances, and facilities to ensure the mission is faithfully and effectively fulfilled. As this is our pilot year, the Director will play a key role in preparing the center for its first group of guests, organizing programming, and ensuring that everything is set up to run smoothly. This will involve planning, organization, and outreach in the months before guests arrive (tentatively Spring 2026). Once operational, the Director will manage the overall  activities, including organizing meals, coordinating essential programs to support guests' personal transformations, and overseeing the upkeep of the facility. This is a live-in position, with room and board provided at the center.

Vision & Program Development

  • Contribute to strategic planning in collaboration with the Board to advance the center’s mission.
  • Develop and oversee a calendar of retreats, workshops, and events, including life-skills programs to support guests post-stay (e.g., driver’s license prep, vocational certification).
  • Coordinate with local professionals and the Head Agrarian to integrate farm-based and instructional programs into the retreat experience.
  • Participate in fundraising in collaboration with the Board.
  • Take the lead in preparing the center for its first guests in summer 2026, ensuring both programming, operational and logistical readiness.

Operations & Administration

  • Oversee daily operations of Peno Creek Renewal Center, ensuring a safe, welcoming, and well-maintained environment.
  • Organize and manage meal preparation for guests using the center’s kitchen.
  • Ensure effective use of site facilities, guest services, and scheduling.
  • Manage operational finances; oversee budgeting and reporting
  • Ensure the maintenance, safety, and stewardship of all facilities and grounds.

Staff & Volunteer Oversight

  • Recruit, train, and supervise staff and volunteers.
  • Foster a healthy, Christ-centered staff culture rooted in teamwork, prayer, and service.
  • Provide ongoing support, performance reviews, and leadership development opportunities.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Mature committed Christian with a testimony of faith and a calling to spiritual renewal ministry.
  • Experience in ministry, ideally in a non-profit or retreat setting.
  • Experience in organizing programs, creating new initiatives, and developing operational structures for a new organization.
  • Comfortable living in a rural setting and the capacity to engage with guests in a hands-on, retreat-based environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams and manage budgets.
  • Bachelor’s degree in theology, ministry, leadership, or a related field preferred.

Ideal Candidate:

We are seeking a director who is deeply rooted in their Christian faith and committed to the mission of Peno Creek Renewal Center.  They will have strong administrative and organizational skills, experience in launching new initiatives and managing diverse programs, and the ability to build meaningful relationships with guests through compassionate, relatable communication.

Compensation:

  • Negotiated based on experience.
  • Room and board provided on-site.
