Position Description

Part of the Knox Camp Lead Team, the LIT and Youth Camp Director is a team leader who advocates for and oversees all aspects of the LIT Program (ages 14-16) and Youth program (ages 12-14) at Knox Camps. 

The LIT and Youth Camp Director will plan and lead the LIT (leader-in-training) program which takes place during Leader training week and the first week of camp. After training LITs, the LIT and Youth Camp Director will run the Youth Program while still being available to assist in the administrative side of the LIT program. 

Able to multi-task, the LIT and Youth Camp Director is mature, innovative, organized, personable and accountable. The LIT and Youth Camp Director reports to & is supported by the Camp Director.

Responsibilities

Staff Training | 1 Week

  • Attend and be punctual for all lead team training days (dates to be provided at interview)

Program Planning | 4 Weeks

  • Learn and familiarize yourself with all teaching materials for the Youth Camp.
  • Plan daily activities for all 6 weeks of the Youth Camp program.
  • Plan weekly trips for all 6 weeks of the Youth Camp program
  • Develop the 2-week Leaders-in-Training (LIT) program and coordinate with Knox Church staff for assistance with specific sessions.
  • Work together with the other coordinators to plan leader training
  • Purchase supplies with the budget allotted to Youth Camp

LIT Training Days | 2 Weeks

  • Assist in the training of LITs alongside squad leaders by leading assigned training sessions and mentoring LITs
  • Facilitate and participate in team building activities
  • Be a resource to other staff members
  • Lead an additional week of training solely for the LIT

Day Camp | 6 Weeks

  • Participate in morning devotionals and afternoon debrief meetings
  • Ensure that all aspects of the Youth Camp program are organized and run smoothly
  • Lead Youth camp activities, including weekly trips, planned during program planning weeks
  • Provide leadership opportunities and mentor LITs
  • Be punctual, prepared, and purposeful in all the program aspects you are part of
  • Be a resource for other leaders and be an effective team member
  • Model compassion, humility and love in all actions
  • Teach campers and staff about the Christian faith

Post-Camp | 1 Week

  • Participate in debrief meetings with the lead team
  • Updating the camp manual for the following year
  • Help with summer-end clean up

Camp Reunion Day | 1 Day

  • Attend and assist in leading Knox Camp Reunion (typically September 13th)

Qualifications

  • Current, clear Vulnerable Sector Screening
  • Organization, collaboration, and communication skills
  • Enthusiastic, creative, and flexible leadership
  • Mature and has experience mentoring others
  • Able to relate well to teenagers 
  • Previous experience working in a camp environment with older children
  • Has a personal relationship with Jesus and a dedication to serve Him
