Position Description

Squad Leaders are part of the ‘front line’ of Knox Camp — in charge of loving and caring for campers. They are enthusiastic and creative in co- leading squads of up to 12 campers, cultivating a camp environment that is formative, fun and memorable. Squad leaders report to and are supported by the Camp Director.

Responsibilities

Staff Training | 1 Week

  • Attend and be punctual for all lead team training days (dates to be provided at interview)

Program Planning | 1 Week

  • Learn and familiarize yourself with all teaching materials and music for the knox camp.
  • Plan small group wide games for campers to play following each of the skits.

Day Camp | 7 Weeks

  • Model compassion, humility, and love in all actions
  • Teach campers about the Christian faith
  • Participate in staff morning devotionals and debrief meetings
  • Lead a squad of up to 12 campers in one of the following age groups: ages 4-5 (Kinder), 6-11 (Kids), or 12-14 (Youth) and engage fully in all camp activities alongside your group.
  • Facilitate small group Bible study discussions in the morning and lead a closing circle at the end of each day. 
  • Lead small group wide games for campers to play following each of the skits
  • Lead music station portion by teaching and practicing your group song with campers.
  • Document and organize children's work throughout the week. 
  • Assist with setup and cleanup of camp activities, helping maintain a safe and orderly environment.
  • Be a mentor to LITs (leaders in training) during their service weeks

Camp Reunion Day | 1 Day

  • Attend and assist in leading Knox Camp Reunion (typically September 13th)

Qualifications

  • Current, clear Vulnerable Sector Screening
  • Experience working with children
  • Positive, team-minded attitude and a strong work ethic
  • Enthusiastic, creative and flexible leadership
  • Previous experience working in a camp environment is an asset
  • Has a personal relationship with Jesus and a dedication to serve Him and tell others about Him

  • Compensation is $18.50/hour + 4% vacation pay for 9 weeks with 37.5 hours per week
