Position Description

Overview:

Here at Zion, we exist to live in relationship with GOD, with PEOPLE and with our CITY. The Worship & Children’s Ministry Coordinator will be an integral member of our staff team who will help us live out this vision.

Primary Purpose:

The Worship & Children’s Ministry Coordinator will be responsible to coordinate the worship ministry, and to develop the children and young family ministries at Zion. They will work collaboratively with staff and ministry leaders, and be directly accountable to the Board and Pastor.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Be an active member of the church community.
  • Work with the Pastor, Director of Ministry and Administration, and worship leaders to plan, lead, and evaluate meaningful weekly worship services that align with Zion’s mission, vision, and CRC theology. Serve as the primary worship leader 2-3 Sundays per month and help to plan and lead special worship services and events (e.g., seasonal services, funerals).
  • Provide leadership, vision, and oversight for the worship ministry, including managing the worship budget, scheduling, song database and the care of instruments.
  • Recruit, train, and mentor worship leaders, musicians, and volunteers, cultivating healthy teams through clear expectations, relationship-building, and accountability.
  • Oversee the tech and audio-visual components of worship. Assist with updating the website and social media platforms in line with the mission and ministries of Zion.
  • Coordinate the children’s ministry at Zion, supporting those who serve through resourcing materials, training, and scheduling.
  • In collaboration with the Board, Pastor, and Director of Ministry & Administration, help develop a cohesive vision for discipleship and faith formation across all ages.
  • Lead ministry development within their portfolio by identifying needs and proposing solutions to support Zion’s goal to become a healthy, sustainable medium-sized church.
  • Build intentional, ground-level relationships with parents, children, and congregants. Create on-ramps into the church community, discipleship, and service.
  • Integrate worship and discipleship so that evangelism naturally flows as an outcome.
  • Participate in weekly staff meeting. Regularly report to the Board about job-related goals, challenges and development.

  • Exhibits organizational and administrative competence, balancing attention to detail with a big-picture perspective.

Experience and Education

  • Formal theological, ministry, and/or music education. Committed to continuing education and spiritual development.
  • Musical proficiency in vocals and at least one accompanying instrument (e.g. guitar or piano/keyboard), with experience leading congregational worship in a variety of worship styles (contemporary & traditional).
  • Experience in ministry leadership and discipleship in a Christian ministry context, and in mentoring and supporting volunteers or leaders.
  • Aligned with Reformed theology and practice.
  • Proficient in basic computer skills and tech savvy. Experience running a sound board is an asset.
