The Church of the Resurrection (COTR) is a historic Anglican church situated on busy Woodbine Ave. in East York, at the bustling heart of the Danforth-Woodbine neighbourhood. Our congregation is mostly local, markedly intergenerational, imperfect yet caring. Everybody is welcome.

Our mission statement, or reason for being, is “To know Christ and make him known”. To bring it to life, we have Core Values to guide us as we seek to live out that simple yet all-encompassing goal. Our Core Values are worship, discipleship, servanthood and generosity. These values are interrelated. As we fulfill one, we are fulfilling others as well. Together, we are trying to live these values individually and collectively.

COTR is a dynamic faith community that has built up a strong core group of families, children and youth. Since 2022, we have had a Family Outreach Worker serving in our midst.

PURPOSE OF POSITION

This post will be an exciting opportunity for a practicing Christian who has experience as a family and/or youth worker to:

  • grow neighbourhood outreach work, and
  • develop and maintain work with families within our church and neighbourhood.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To maintain and build relationships between the church and the wider local community, including creating missional opportunities. Of particular emphasis would be building relationships between COTR and local community development programs; as well as developing ways to use our facility and other resources for the greater benefit of our neighbours.
  • To help those who come to faith to find their home in the COTR faith community
  • To provide leadership to the Resurrection Kids Sunday program including recruiting, liaising and supporting teachers, ordering curriculum and other supplies and offering vision and guidance for that ministry. Volunteers run the youth ministry; however, this role will provide main pastoral staff support and problem-solving assistance when required.
  • To regularly share in planning and leading worship, particularly where children and families attend, including the planning of all-ages worship services. Maintain a monthly rhythm of hosting family-friendly events involving a meal.
  • To contribute to maintaining an inclusive space of safety and belonging for all.
  • To know and adhere to all diocesan and parish policies, particularly the Diocese of Toronto’s Sexual Misconduct and Screening Policies.
  • To attend bi-weekly Staff, weekly Supervisory and monthly Advisory Team meetings.
  • To conduct all activities associated with this position in a manner consistent with the Parish Mission Statement and Core Values.
  • To perform other duties as assigned by the Wardens or the Incumbent.
  • Internal and external communications, such as monthly newsletters, verbal and visual announcements, and more.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A person of Christian faith with a demonstrated commitment to integrating their faith into their daily life.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years experience in a similar or related field.
  • A university, college or seminary degree would be an asset.

SKILLS

  • Faith Foundations & Mission: Desire to see God’s kingdom grow; passion for children, family and outreach ministry; alignment with the Church of the Resurrection’s mission to “Know Christ and Make Him Known”
  • Volunteer Management: Ability to recruit, support, motivate, equip and retain volunteers; an eye for matching people’s gifts to roles
  • Leadership: Key member of pastoral staff and advisory teams and leader of kids ministry volunteer team, can take ownership of tasks to guide conversations and work towards goals; gifted in creating clear steps towards action and course correcting as needed
  • Adaptation & Critical Thinking: Flexibility and problem-solving skills to respond calmly and effectively to last-minute disruptions; resilient to change; solution-focused
  • Collaboration: Ability to collaborate well with a diversity of people (staff and volunteers, from the church and external)
  • Planning & Organization: Strong scheduling and coordination skills; ability to manage programs and events from concept through to evaluation
  • Independence: Self-directed and motivated, dependable, and able to manage multiple projects at once; requiring minimal direction
  • Hospitality & Welcome: A belief in the gift of God-given differences with a desire for inclusion of all people; ability to host and facilitate in a way that fosters unity and builds rapport across generations
  • Creativity: Unique vision in designing engaging children’s, family, and outreach programs and events
  • Interpersonal Skills: Active listener; strength in building trust with families, volunteers, staff, and community partners
  • Verbal & Written Communication: Confident verbal communication, including making engaging announcements and personal invitations; strong writing ability to craft engaging monthly newsletters, insightful reflections, and clear electronic communications
