Position Description

St Clair Ave Baptist Church is prayerfully seeking an Interim Pastor to provide spiritual leadership, biblical preaching, teaching and pastoral care to the church family. The Pastor will partner with the congregation to faithfully discern and live out God’s calling for St. Clair Avenue Baptist Church and its surrounding community. The successful pastor will demonstrate a love for Christ, a heart for people, and a passion for discipleship, prayer, and community engagement.

St. Clair Avenue Baptist Church is a Baptist congregation located at 152 Wychwood Ave (Wychwood and St Clair) in Toronto, Ontario. We are a Christ-centred, Bible-believing church desiring to live out our faith through worship, discipleship, fellowship, prayer, and active engagement with our surrounding community.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

• St. Clair Avenue Baptist Church is seeking a candidate with a minimum of a Bachelors of Divinity degree from an accredited theological institution.
• Minimum 3 years in ministry experience
• The successful candidate must either hold or be willing to pursue credentialing with the Canadian Baptists of Ontario and Quebec and must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
• Current Police background check including vulnerable sectors

Roles and Responsibilities

• Preach and teach the Word of God faithfully, applying scripture in ways that are clear and relevant
• Conduct communion services in partnership with the Deacons
• Conduct bible teaching and discipleship training to equip the church family
• Support and guide the development of youth and young adult ministry
• Build strong pastoral relationships through care, encouragement, and presence
• Build on the strong intercessory prayer ministry and integrate prayer into worship, ministry and decision making
• Expand community outreach and develop partnerships with local organizations and churches
• Foster unity within a diverse and multicultural, multigenerational church community
• Develop, mentor, and empower leaders across ages and cultures
• Work collaboratively with the church leadership which includes deacons, management board, committees and ministry teams
• Lead with transparency, mutual accountability, and respect for CBOQ and church constitution
• Provide pastoral care through listening, prayer, visitation, encouragement and spiritual guidance

• Demonstrate a strong personal relationship with Jesus Christ and commitment to the authority of the scripture
• Strong biblical knowledge and able to teach and preach effectively
• Strong communication skills and able to lead with transparency
• Ability to manage conflict with grace and wisdom while promoting unity
• Deep personal faith and a strong prayer life
• Experience in pastoral leadership and preaching
• Ability to mentor, disciple and connect with individuals across diverse ages, cultures and background
• Integrity, humility and strong moral character
• Compassionate and approachable
