Co-vocational Lead Pastor
Co-vocational Lead Pastor
Prince Edward, ON, Ontario , k0k 2t0
Position Description
A Be In Christ, Anabaptist‑Rooted Community in West Lake, Prince Edward County
Who We Are
Sandbanks Community Church is a vibrant, relational community rooted in the Anabaptist tradition and alive with the conviction that following Jesus is not just something we believe, but a way of life we actively live together.
We are committed to becoming a people who:
- Take the life and teachings of Jesus seriously-and courageously put them into practice.
- Live our faith out loud through shared life, radical hospitality and hands on service.
- Embody peace, humility, simplicity and courageous love of neighbour in a divided world.
- Open our doors wide to people of every background, especially those with little or no church background.
- Our Anabaptist identity shapes everything we do. It forms the way we read Scripture, the way we walk alongside one another, and the way we understand the role of the church-not as an institution to maintain, but as a movement of people called to live out the way of Jesus together.
Our Current Season
Sandbanks is intentionally in a season of listening and discernment.
Rather than assuming a fixed model of church, we are asking prayerful questions about:
- How God is calling us to live as a faithful Anabaptist presence in West Lake and Prince Edward County
- What it looks like to be a church that is rooted locally and open‑handed
- How discipleship, community life, and mission fit together in our context
- What structures best support shared leadership and mutual responsibility
We see this season not as a gap to be rushed through, but as faithful work.
Our Understanding of Church & Leadership
Our approach to leadership reflects core Anabaptist convictions:
- Jesus is the head of the church
- Leadership exists to serve, equip, and invite participation, not to control
- Ministry is the shared work of the whole community
- Discernment is best done together, through prayer, conversation, and listening
- The Lead Pastor is not expected to carry the church alone. Instead, the role is to walk alongside the congregation, helping nurture spiritual life, encourage participation, and support the discernment of God’s leading.
Our Community & Context
Sandbanks is located in a rural and small‑town context, shaped by agriculture, tourism, and a strong sense of place. Prince Edward County offers both challenges and opportunities for living out an incarnational, peace‑centred faith.
We desire to be a church that:
- Is present and attentive to its neighbours
- Partners humbly with others doing good work in the community
- Practices compassion in tangible ways
- Makes thoughtful, generous use of its space and resources
What We Are Seeking in a Lead Pastor
We are seeking a co‑vocational Lead Pastor (20 hours/week) who:
- Is deeply committed to following Jesus in the Anabaptist way
- Is comfortable with shared leadership and communal discernment
- Can serve as a pastoral presence and gentle guide
- Is patient with process and open to learning alongside us
- Understands that faithfulness matters more than scale or speed
- This role is intentionally flexible and evolving, shaped by the conviction that clarity comes through faithful practice over time.
A Final Word
Sandbanks Community Church is not looking for a pastor to “fix” or “grow” us in conventional ways. We are seeking a pastor‑partner—someone willing to walk with us as we listen for God’s leading and seek to live out the way of Jesus faithfully, together, in this place.
If that resonates with your sense of calling, we would welcome a conversation.
