Role Overview

Calvary Logos Baptist Church (CLBC) is seeking a full-time Cantonese Pastor for our Cantonese-speaking congregation. As a small, family-oriented church, we are looking for a relational shepherd to build upon the foundation laid by our retiring pastor. The successful candidate will be a collaborative leader who works closely with our English Ministry to foster a unified, multi-generational church body.

Denominational Affiliation

This position requires alignment with Baptist faith and practice. The candidate must be accredited by, or willing to seek accreditation with, the Canadian Baptists of Ontario and Quebec (CBOQ).

Key Responsibilities

1. Pastoral Shepherding

• Multi-Generational Care: Actively shepherd elders, families, and individuals through regular visitation, prayer, and counseling.
• Elder Care: Provide dedicated support, pastoral care, and spiritual nourishment to the senior members of our Cantonese congregation.
• Discipleship: Guide spiritual leadership and support the unique needs of fellowships and small groups within a Canadian-Chinese context.

2. Word, Worship & Teaching

• Preaching: Prepare and deliver weekly Cantonese sermons that are biblically centered and applicable to daily life.
• Sunday School: Oversee Cantonese Sunday School classes and support Sunday School teachers, fostering deep biblical literacy across the congregation.

3. Inter-Congregational Collaboration

• One Church Vision: Work in close partnership with the English Pastor to ensure the Cantonese and English congregations remain a cohesive "church family."
• Joint Initiatives: Coordinate combined worship services, holidays, and community outreach events that bridge language and generational gaps.
• Staff Unity: Participate in regular staff meetings and collaborative planning sessions to maintain administrative and spiritual alignment.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Spiritual Maturity: A deep, personal relationship with Jesus Christ and a life that reflects the biblical qualifications for leadership (1 Timothy 3:1-7; Titus 1:5-9).
• Education: A minimum of a Master of Divinity (M. DIv.) from an accredited seminary, or equivalent
• Language: Fluency in Cantonese (spoken and written). Strong proficiency in English is required for effective collaboration with the English ministry and staff.
• Experience: Experience in a North American Chinese church setting is highly valued, particularly in roles involving pastoral care and shepherding.

Compensation & Benefits

• Salary Range: Compensation will be established using the Canadian Baptists of Ontario and Quebec (CBOQ) Pastoral Compensation Guidelines. The salary structure will utilize the CBOQ calculator, factoring in the candidate's education and years of accredited pastoral experience.
• Benefits Package: Consistent with CBOQ standards, the compensation package includes:
• Comprehensive Health and Dental coverage through the Canadian Baptist Group Benefits Plan.
• A 6% matching church contribution to the Canadian Baptist Pension Plan.
• An annual continuing education and book allowance.
• Paid vacation (commensurate with experience) and sick leave.

About Calvary Logos Baptist Church
