Position Summary

250+ students are waiting for someone to lead them well. The Student Ministry Director owns that across two campuses, a volunteer team of 85+ leaders, and more locations coming. This is a pastoral leadership role: building and shepherding Student Ministry (Grades 5–12) so students develop a faith of their own, build meaningful relationships, and grow in their relationship with Jesus.

As Connexus adds campuses, this role and the teams under it will continue to grow. You'd be building that, not inheriting it finished.

Reports To: Executive Director of NextGen Ministries

Direct Reports: Associate Student Ministry Director, Student Ministry interns; indirect oversight of campus-level volunteer leadership teams.

Key Responsibilities

Lead Student Ministry

• Lead engaging student environments (Sunday and mid-week) where students build faith and community.
• Oversee retreats, outreach initiatives, and special events.
• Give vision and direction to the Student Worship Team.

Develop Leaders & Partner with Parents

• Recruit, train, and develop the volunteer leadership team.
• Coach and support the Associate Student Ministry Director, interns, and campus-level leadership teams.
• Develop the Student Leadership Team, building a pipeline of student leaders.
• Champion parents as the primary spiritual influence in their students’ lives, with real systems for partnering with families — not just events.

Build & Grow the Ministry

• Prepare and manage the annual Student Ministry budget.
• Build relationships within local schools and communities.
• Collaborate with staff and ministries across Connexus so students and families get a consistent experience.
• Monitor ministry health and key metrics, and adjust strategy accordingly.
• Create clear next steps for students in baptism, serving, leadership, mentorship, and spiritual growth.
• Help shape and launch Student Ministry as Connexus adds new locations.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• A growing, authentic relationship with Jesus.
• 2+ years leading middle school and/or high school ministry.
• Experience leading and developing staff and large volunteer teams.
• Confidence communicating from the platform and in one-on-one settings.
• Strong leadership, pastoral, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, multisite, still-growing environment.
• You’re ready for more responsibility than your current role gives you.

What Success Looks Like

You’ll know it’s working when a student who walked in skeptical starts owning their faith for the first time. When a volunteer leader grows into something they didn’t know they had in them. When a parent feels like a partner, not a bystander. When the ministry is strong enough to hand off a new campus and it thrives.

Schedule: 40+ hours/week, including weekends, mid-week programming, and special events.

Compensation: Commensurate with experience.
