Job Description: Children’s Pastor
Start Date: Sept. 1, 2026
Type: This is a full-time position (30 hours/week) with full benefits starting after a three-month probationary period.
Location: Church on the Rock is located in Hamilton, Ontario Canada. We are a portable church for the moment. We own a building with a large property and we will be moving into it once it is complete.
Reports to: Lead Pastor
Overview of the Organization:
Church on the Rock (COTR) is a growing, young at heart church passionate about reaching and transforming lives on the Hamilton Mountain. Our church is evangelical, Bible-based, pursuing the leading of the Spirit.
Primary Purpose:
The children’s pastor is responsible for the evangelism, discipleship and leadership development of children at Church on the Rock. This should be accomplished primarily through the recruitment, encouragement, and equipping of volunteers and volunteer leaders. Our aim is for children to enter into a relationship with Jesus, grow in that relationship, and grow in Biblical literacy.
Our hope is that this role will grow to a 40 hr/week position with the addition of a midweek ministry program.
Main Responsibilities:
- Oversee and participate in Sunday morning children’s ministry (nursery, preschool and grades 1-5).
- Recruit, train and care for a team of children’s volunteers and volunteer leaders.
- Collaborate with the youth pastor to facilitate healthy transitions of students from children’s ministry into youth ministry.
- Host special events involving children for the church (for example, seasonal programs and community outreaches).
- Visit new mothers.
- Come alongside parents by connecting with, equipping, and encouraging them in their roles as spiritual leaders in their homes.
- Work with the summer day camp team.
- Take part in our staff team and cross-department events.
Interpersonal Skills and Personal Attributes:
- A vibrant, personal relationship with God with strong Biblical knowledge.
- Proven ability to work cooperatively with all levels of management, staff and volunteers.
- Good organizational skills and ability to set up systems.
- Passion and calling to work with children, volunteers and parents.
- Able to create a fun and engaging learning environment.
- Willing to try new ideas and aware of/open to cutting edge trends.
Experience:
- Experience with leading a team based, church, children’s ministry.
