Position Description
For more than 30 years, The Learning House has been a leader in serving the Canadian homeschool and private school population and we are growing! Do you love serving homeschooling families? Do you have a passion for books and love for the homeschool community or Christian education? Come join us!
**We have immediate openings and will be filling them as qualified candidates are identified. Applications will be addressed as they are received.**
Salary Range: To be determined
Type: Part-time permanent. Driving is one weekday per week year-round with the opportunity to add hours via other positions in the company and additional driving hours in August.
Location: Route starts in Bradford, Ontario.
Required:
- Valid G or higher drivers’ license with clean abstract
- Valid Passport and ability to cross the border into the US
- Experience driving larger vehicles
- Ability to safely and repeatedly lift and move boxes up to 50lbs
- Must be able to pass a USDOT physical examination
- Availability to drive one or more weekdays starting at 6am.
- Attention to detail
- Ability to work with a team
- Minimum age: 25
Recommended Skills:
- Basic computer skills in Quickbooks, Outlook, and other common applications
- Workplace safety training and experience
- Previous experience in bookstores or Christian education or warehousing
- First Aid certificate
Tasks:
Drivers regularly perform the following tasks:
- Weekly daytime drive to US warehouse
- Accurately checks and receives packages listed on a manifest
- Safely and securely loads packages onto truck
- Safely uses appropriate equipment including pallet jacks, loading dock, dollies and ramps
- Uses safe lifting procedures with loads ranging from 20-200 packages and packages ranging in weight from 1 to 70lbs.
- Safely navigate a cube truck on city roads and highways.
- Finalize and submit customs information and payments, communicating with other team members if updates are needed, and interacting with Customs Canada agents
- Perform regular safety checks on vehicle and respond immediately if maintenance or repairs are needed.
- Maintain cleanliness and safety of vehicle and contents while in use
- Communicate effectively with other staff, customers, and vendors
- Any other tasks as assigned by Owner
