Position Description
Pickering Christian School is looking for an experienced, passionate, and student focused Elementary French Teacher to join our team! As an established Christian elementary school with 40 years in the Durham Region, PCS prides itself on creating an engaging and enriching learning environment with foundations in a Christian worldview that focuses on educating the whole child.
In this important role, the Elementary French Teacher will serve as a key member of our teaching team, helping to guide, teach and inspire our youngest students academically, socially and spiritually.
As a faith based school, our Elementary French Teacher will be a follower of Jesus Christ and an active member of an evangelical church.
This role is a permanent, part-time role with the potential to be full-time depending on additional skillsets and experience. Core working hours are flexible for the part-time position with a preference being either 5 days a week for mornings (8 AM to 12 PM), or 2.5 days total through the week. With a full day being 8 AM to 4PM.
Role Responsibilities
The below is a high level overview of key responsibilities of this role.
- To carry out the professional duties of a teacher in accordance with the school's policies under the direction of the Principal and Vice Principals
- To be an effective teaching professional who demonstrates a thorough understanding and knowledge of the elementary French curriculum (Grades 4 to 8)
- To accurately and effectively assess students
- To continue to implement long-range plans and unit plans
- To demonstrate effective teaching practices that include differentiated instruction to remediate and enrich student learning
- To take responsibility for professional development and to work in a collaborative working environment
- To lead, coordinate, and/or support co-curricular activities, sports and/or clubs
Our Ideal Candidate:
The below qualifications and skill sets are required to be successful in this role.
- Teacher certification (OCT) or equivalent
- Qualified to teach Elementary French
- Fluent in all aspects of French Language
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in both French and English
- Minimum experience of 1 year working with children aged 4 - 13 years old, in a classroom setting
- Have knowledge of/or experience with the CEFR French Standards
- Have knowledge of/or experience with the AIM curriculum
- Professional, mature, warm, patient, and nurturing
- Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task with confidence
- Excellent classroom management skills and the ability to teach in both large and small groups
- Creativity and independence in lesson planning
- Participation in staff meetings and professional development, as well as school events and fundraisers, as requested
- Able to use technology (PC, SmartBoard, Chromebooks) in the classroom
- Able to to take direction and be open to feedback and new learning opportunities
