Position Description

Summit Community Church (SCC), a member of The Alliance Canada, is a growing Church in Richmond Hill with a mission of guiding people to know and intentionally follow Jesus Christ through growing in faith, loving in community, and serving in mission.

Position Type: Part-Time
Schedule: Tuesday–Thursday, 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., with occasional weekends to support events
Compensation: $23.00/hour
Reports To: Director of Operations

Job Summary

The Administrative & Communications Assistant provides administrative, communications, and logistical support to the Director of Operations and various ministries across Summit Community Church (SCC).

Key Responsibilities

Administrative Support

  • Oversee the main reception area, ensuring a welcoming, responsive, and organized environment during office hours
  • Greet and direct visitors; respond to inquiries in person, by phone, and via email
  • Manage the general church inbox and incoming correspondence, responding, redirecting, and flagging priorities as needed
  • Communicate messages, requests, and information clearly and accurately to staff and ministry leaders
  • Provide administrative and clerical support to the Director of Operations, staff, and ministry leaders
  • Coordinate communication and information for the church family and newcomers in a clear and welcoming manner
  • Maintain the church calendar, including event scheduling and facility bookings
  • Support general office operations, including office supplies, mail distribution, and administrative tasks
  • Assist with printing and distributing ministry and teaching materials

Communications & Marketing

  • Coordinate and distribute weekly eblasts through Constant Contact, working with ministry leads to gather content, identify communication priorities, and present information in a clear and engaging way
  • Create and schedule social media content for platforms such as Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn
  • Design graphics for social media, eblasts, announcements, presentations, and ministry promotions
  • Develop promotional materials including posters, flyers, invitations, and event communications
  • Assist with preparing and distributing weekly church communications such as newsletters and bulletins

Events & Ministry Support

  • Support ministry programs and special events through logistical coordination
  • Assist with event preparation, supplies, catering coordination, and setup
  • Provide behind-the-scenes coordination and operational support for church events and ministry activities
  • Assist with occasional local errands related to ministry operations or events

Qualifications Education & Experience

  • Post-secondary education in administration, communications, marketing, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Previous experience in administrative, office, communications, or ministry support roles preferred
  • Experience creating digital and print graphics is considered an asset
  • Familiarity with church or non-profit environments is an asset

  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail
  • Proactive and self-motivated, with the ability to anticipate needs, take initiative, and follow through on tasks
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Creative with an eye for design, layout, and visual consistency
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Comfortable using Canva (or similar design platforms) and social media tools
  • Familiarity with Planning Center Online (PCO) or willingness to learn
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment
  • Positive, service-oriented attitude with a heart for ministry
  • Willingness to learn new systems and adapt to changing ministry needs
  • Access to a reliable vehicle and willingness to assist with occasional local errands

Position Requirements

  • Legally eligible to work in Canada
  • Ability to work onsite in Richmond Hill, including occasional weekends as required
  • Ability to provide a satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Demonstrates alignment with the doctrine and statements of faith of The Christian and Missionary Alliance in Canada
