Next Generation Pastor

Vision Alignment with LEMC:

We’re looking for someone excited about a culture of discipleship and multiplication—every disciple making disciples, developing leaders, and multiplying groups, pastors and churches. Every LEMC Pastor must be credentialed, or be willing to pursue credentialing, as a Licensed or Ordained Ministry with the Evangelical Missionary Church of Canada (EMCC).

Job Overview:

The Next Generation Pastor is expected to be a leading example of following Jesus. They will primarily focus on leading LEMC’s youth ministry (grades 6-12), while assisting in other areas as part of the pastoral team. Their work is empowering, helping others contribute and grow in their skills and leadership.

Full-time:

The Next Generation Pastor is a salaried position with wages and benefits established using the EMCC guideline. This position is expected to work 45 hours per week on average, including weekends and some evenings.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Oversee the Jr youth (gr. 6-8) and Sr youth (highschool) ministries - Wednesday night program, special events and serving events, and conferences and retreats (about 4/year) - for the purpose of discipling youth, helping them live missionally, and creating vibrant Christian community
• Recruit, empower, and equip a team of volunteer Youth Leaders to play significant roles in the ministry
• Invest more heavily in a few of the youth - through mentoring, huddles, or the Student Leadership Team (SLT) - to help them grow in their faith and leadership
• Develop and facilitate the youth ministry vision and strategy, in alignment with the overall vision and strategy of LEMC and under the supervision of the Lead Pastor
• Provide care to Youth Leaders, youth and families, as needed
• Communicate effectively and consistently with parents, leaders, and youth
• Complete administrative tasks to help the youth program thrive: organizing and planning events, printing, permission forms, etc
• Oversee the running of Jr and Sr Youth social media and group chats
• Preach 6-8 times per year in the Sunday service, and emcee as needed
• Plan 2-3 family events (for kids and youth families) over the course of the year, in collaboration with the Children’s Ministry Director

Other Responsibilities:

• Use the summer months (June-August) to prepare a vision for the coming school year, to communicate a calendar of events with staff and Youth Leaders, and to prepare/adjust the Youth Leader team as needed for the coming year
• Oversee the LEMC Outpost (Student Missional Community) in Atwood, which is a weekly summer program (July/August) that connects with students in the Atwood community
• Assist with Vacation Bible School in July, in connection with Children’s Ministry Director
• Assist children’s ministry, by teaching in the High Voltage program on Sunday mornings, once a month
• Assist parents with helpful tools they need for spiritual leadership in the home
• Participate in and lead a huddle, as part of LEMC’s discipling strategy
• Participate in denominational initiatives, such as EMCC camps or the Area Network Group for pastors
• Ensure all RISK policies are implemented and carefully being followed in your ministries, including the screening and training of all volunteers in Youth Ministry
• Keep attendance lists up to date in Planning Center Online (PCO), and available to the RISK Committee upon request
• Ensure volunteers leave their rooms clean and tidy after each event
• Create and effectively manage the youth ministry budget
• Write and submit an Annual Report each year, for the Annual Business Meeting
• Seek ongoing training, mentoring and development
• Regularly attend LEMC Sunday services

Involvement in Leadership Team:

• Work as a team with other LEMC leaders and staff
• Attend and participate in weekly staff meetings
• Meet regularly with Lead Pastor for coaching and support
• Attend and participate in Vision Committee meetings, LEMC’s Annual Business Meeting, LEMC Townhall meetings, and as able in regular Council meetings
• Stay familiar with LEMC policies, as needed
• Meet with the Lead Pastor for formal peer reviews 2-3 times per year. At the beginning of the performance year, Council will share the new Job Expectations, and the Next Gen Pastor will create their Personal Development Plan (PDP) for the year. During each formal review, the Lead Pastor & Next Gen Pastor will review the job expectations and PDP
• At the end-of-year review cycle, Council will obtain upward feedback (from volunteers), to assist with the review process, in identifying potential areas of strength and growth.
