Position Description

Position Summary

The Executive Director (ED) serves as the chief executive officer, primary ministry leader, and public representative of Christine's Place. The Executive Director provides strategic, operational, financial, organizational, and spiritual leadership to ensure that the ministry faithfully fulfills its mission and charitable purpose.

The Executive Director implements Board-approved direction, stewards organizational resources, ensures sustainability, strengthens ministry impact, fosters healthy relationships, builds organizational capacity, and advances a Christ-centred culture throughout all aspects of Christine's Place.

The Executive Director serves as the primary link between the Board of Directors and ministry operations and is accountable for leadership, vision, governance support, compliance, fundraising, staff and volunteer development, community engagement, and organizational effectiveness.

 

Bona Fide Occupational Requirement (BFOR)

This position has been designated as a Bona Fide Occupational Requirement (BFOR).

Due to the Christian religious nature, mission, values, and ministry activities of Christine's Place, the Executive Director serves as the principal ministry leader and public representative of the organization and is responsible for advancing its Christian mission and purpose.

As a condition of employment, the individual occupying this position must:

Demonstrate a personal and active faith in Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord.

  • Affirm and support the Mission, Vision, Statement of Faith, Statement of Principles, Core Values, Sanctity of Human Life Position, Commitment of Care and Competence, Core Documents, and Policies and Procedures of Christine's Place.
  • Conduct themselves in a manner consistent with Christine's Place's Christian beliefs, values, and ministry standards.
  • Provide Christ-centred leadership, spiritual encouragement, mentorship, discipleship, and ministry oversight to staff and volunteers.
  • Represent Christine's Place in a manner that reflects the organization's Christian identity and ministry purpose.
  • Demonstrate Christlike character, humility, integrity, wisdom, compassion, accountability, and servant leadership.
  • These requirements are considered reasonably necessary to fulfill the essential duties of this role and are established in accordance with applicable human rights legislation.

 

Purpose of the Role

The Executive Director exists to:

  • Advance the Mission and Vision of Christine's Place.
  • Ensure the ministry remains faithful to its Christian calling and charitable purpose.
  • Provide strategic direction and organizational leadership.
  • Foster healthy relationships with the Board, staff, volunteers, donors, churches, businesses, community partners, and stakeholders.
  • Build organizational capacity and long-term sustainability.
  • Ensure all programs, services, and operations are conducted with excellence, compassion, accountability, and integrity.
  • Promote a healthy organizational culture that reflects Christian values and trauma-informed ministry practices.

 

Strategic Leadership & Governance

The Executive Director shall:

  • Lead implementation of the organization's strategic plan in partnership with the Board of Directors.
  • Assist the Board in identifying strategic priorities and organizational goals.
  • Ensure organizational activities remain aligned with the Mission, Vision, Core Values, and charitable purposes of Christine's Place.
  • Provide the Board with regular, accurate reports on organizational performance, risks, opportunities, and emerging trends.
  • Support the Board in fulfilling its governance responsibilities while maintaining clear distinctions between governance and operations.
  • Facilitate organizational planning, evaluation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support long-term organizational sustainability and growth.
  • Ensure organizational decisions reflect both strategic priorities and ministry values.

 

Ministry Leadership & Faith Stewardship

The Executive Director shall:

  • Serve as the primary steward of the Mission, Vision, Statement of Faith, Statement of Principles, Sanctity of Human Life Position, Core Values, Commitment of Care and Competence, and Core Documents of Christine's Place.
  • Ensure all programs, services, policies, communications, partnerships, and organizational practices remain aligned with the ministry's Christian identity and charitable purpose.
  • Promote a culture of prayer, discipleship, spiritual growth, and Christ-centred service.
  • Provide guidance regarding faith integration throughout the organization.
  • Work with the Board of Directors to discern ministry direction through prayerful leadership and strategic planning.
  • Protect and preserve Christine's Place's Christian mission, values, and public witness.

 

Spiritual & Organizational Culture Leadership

The Executive Director shall:

  • Model Christ-centred leadership, humility, compassion, accountability, and integrity.
  • Foster a workplace culture aligned with the Mission, Vision, Statement of Faith, Sanctity of Human Life Position, and Core Values of Christine's Place.
  • Provide spiritual encouragement, mentorship, discipleship, and support to staff and volunteers.
  • Promote prayer, spiritual development, and ministry care throughout the organization.
  • Address conflict and organizational challenges using Biblical principles and trauma-informed practices.
  • Ensure faith integration remains authentic, respectful, non-coercive, and mission-centred.
  • Encourage a healthy, supportive, collaborative, and mission-driven team environment.

 

Program Oversight, Operational Excellence & Accreditation

The Executive Director shall:

  • Ensure programs and services are delivered with quality, consistency, compassion, and accountability.
  • Provide leadership and oversight to program staff and service delivery systems.
  • Monitor service effectiveness and adjust programming to meet changing community needs.
  • Ensure services are delivered within approved organizational scope and standards.
  • Maintain oversight of client-care practices, documentation standards, program outcomes, and reporting systems.
  • Ensure accurate record-keeping, reporting, and data collection practices.
  • Support innovation and program development initiatives.
  • Lead the organization's accreditation efforts and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure ongoing compliance with Pregnancy Care Canada accreditation standards and expectations.
  • Coordinate preparation for accreditation reviews, audits, and organizational assessments.
  • Promote a culture of excellence, accountability, compliance, and continuous improvement.

 

Trauma-Informed Leadership & Client Care

The Executive Director shall:

  • Ensure programs, policies, communications, leadership practices, and services reflect trauma-informed principles.
  • Promote client-centred care that recognizes the dignity, experiences, strengths, and autonomy of every individual served.
  • Ensure staff and volunteers receive training in trauma-informed ministry practices.
  • Foster an environment that promotes safety, trust, empowerment, collaboration, and healing.
  • Support respectful and compassionate responses to individuals experiencing unexpected pregnancy, grief, trauma, relationship difficulties, post-abortion concerns, family challenges, or other life circumstances.

 

Human Resources & Leadership Development

The Executive Director shall:

  • Recruit, supervise, mentor, and support staff and key volunteers.
  • Conduct annual evaluations and provide ongoing coaching and feedback.
  • Foster accountability, teamwork, communication, and professional growth.
  • Ensure job descriptions, onboarding processes, evaluations, and training plans remain current.
  • Promote staff well-being, retention, and leadership development.
  • Ensure compliance with employment standards and organizational policies.
  • Support leadership development and succession planning throughout the organization.

 

Leadership Team Oversight

The Executive Director shall:

  • Lead, supervise, mentor, and support leadership team members.
  • Facilitate regular leadership team meetings.
  • Promote collaboration and accountability among leadership personnel.
  • Foster consistency across programs, services, locations, communications, and ministry practices.
  • Support leadership development and succession planning for key leadership positions.
  • Encourage healthy relationships and organizational alignment among ministry leaders.

 

Volunteer Ministry Leadership

The Executive Director shall:

  • Champion volunteer recruitment, onboarding, training, engagement, appreciation, and retention.
  • Promote a healthy volunteer culture that reflects Christine's Place's values and mission.
  • Support volunteer leadership development and succession planning.
  • Ensure volunteers are appropriately trained, equipped, supervised, and supported.
  • Foster meaningful volunteer involvement throughout all areas of ministry service.

 

Financial Stewardship & Organizational Sustainability

The Executive Director shall:

  • Develop and manage the annual budget in partnership with the Treasurer and Board.
  • Ensure sound financial management practices, stewardship, accountability, transparency, and internal controls.
  • Monitor financial performance and organizational sustainability.
  • Ensure expenditures remain within approved budgets.
  • Work with bookkeepers, accountants, auditors, legal advisors, and financial professionals as needed.
  • Strengthen organizational sustainability through strategic planning and responsible stewardship.
  • Identify opportunities to improve financial stability and long-term sustainability.

 

Fund Development & Donor Stewardship

The Executive Director shall:

  • Lead development and implementation of a comprehensive fundraising strategy.
  • Build and maintain relationships with donors, churches, foundations, businesses, sponsors, and community partners.
  • Oversee donor stewardship, donor communications, campaigns, and fundraising initiatives.
  • Support diversified revenue development and organizational sustainability.
  • Ensure donor communications accurately reflect mission impact and community need.
  • Ensure compliance with CRA charitable fundraising requirements and receipting standards.

 

Community Engagement & External Relations

The Executive Director shall:

  • Serve as the primary spokesperson and public representative of Christine's Place.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with churches, community organizations, businesses, healthcare providers, government representatives, service clubs, and community leaders.
  • Participate in public speaking opportunities, media engagements, networking activities, conferences, and community events.
  • Promote awareness of Christine's Place, its services, and its mission.
  • Strengthen community support, partnerships, and community engagement.

 

Church Relations & Ministry Partnerships

The Executive Director shall:

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with churches, pastors, denominational leaders, and Christian organizations.
  • Encourage church engagement through prayer, volunteer opportunities, education, partnership, and financial support.
  • Represent Christine's Place within the broader Christian community.
  • Develop strategic partnerships with other life-affirming organizations and ministries.
  • Strengthen ministry awareness and support through collaborative relationships.

 

Organizational Communication & Information Flow

The Executive Director shall:

  • Ensure effective communication throughout the organization.
  • Establish communication systems that promote transparency, accountability, collaboration, and operational effectiveness.
  • Ensure appropriate communication between the Board, staff, volunteers, churches, community partners, donors, and supporters.
  • Promote healthy communication practices and organizational conflict-resolution processes.
  • Foster an environment where feedback, ideas, concerns, and questions can be addressed constructively.

 

Communications & Brand Stewardship

The Executive Director shall:

  • Ensure public communications accurately reflect the Mission, Vision, Statement of Faith, and ministry identity of Christine's Place.
  • Oversee organizational messaging, branding, media relations, communication strategies, and public relations.
  • Ensure communications use respectful, ethical, compassionate, and trauma-informed language.
  • Protect confidentiality, client dignity, donor confidence, and organizational reputation.
  • Approve organizational messaging as appropriate.

 

Crisis Leadership & Organizational Resilience

The Executive Director shall:

  • Provide leadership during organizational, operational, financial, personnel, reputational, community, or client-related crises.
  • Ensure timely and appropriate responses to emergency situations and critical incidents.
  • Coordinate organizational communication during crisis situations.
  • Support staff, volunteers, clients, and stakeholders during periods of disruption and change.
  • Promote organizational resilience, preparedness, and continuity planning.

 

Accreditation, Compliance & Risk Management

The Executive Director shall:

  • Lead and oversee organizational compliance with applicable legislation, regulations, standards, and policies.
  • Maintain compliance with CRA charitable requirements.
  • Support compliance with ONCA governance requirements.
  • Maintain compliance with workplace, privacy, employment, and health and safety legislation.
  • Ensure compliance with Pregnancy Care Canada, NLCA, and CCCC expectations.
  • Prepare for accreditation reviews, compliance reviews, audits, and assessments.
  • Identify, assess, monitor, and manage organizational risks.
  • Ensure compliance with privacy legislation, confidentiality expectations, cybersecurity practices, data protection requirements, and responsible technology use.
  • Ensure responsible, ethical, and policy-compliant use of artificial intelligence and digital systems.
  • Oversee responses to privacy breaches, cybersecurity incidents, and information-management risks.

 

Outcomes Measurement, Organizational Learning & Innovation

The Executive Director shall:

  • Ensure collection, monitoring, and evaluation of meaningful organizational and service data.
  • Utilize outcome measurements, service statistics, and client outcomes to inform decision-making.
  • Provide impact-focused reporting to the Board, donors, funders, and accreditation bodies.
  • Promote evidence-informed planning and resource allocation.
  • Encourage innovation, evaluation, learning, reflection, and continuous improvement.
  • Foster an organizational culture that values creativity, feedback, adaptation, and excellence in ministry.

 

Leadership Development & Succession Planning

The Executive Director shall:

  • Identify and develop future leaders within the organization.
  • Support leadership development opportunities for staff and volunteers.
  • Maintain succession planning processes for key positions.
  • Facilitate knowledge transfer and leadership continuity.
  • Maintain emergency succession planning documentation.
  • Ensure critical organizational knowledge, systems, and procedures are documented and transferable.
  • Assist the Board in supporting long-term organizational continuity and sustainability.

 

Public Education & Community Awareness

The Executive Director shall:

  • Promote public awareness regarding services, programs, and the charitable purpose of Christine's Place.
  • Support educational initiatives related to healthy relationships, pregnancy support, parenting support, post-abortion healing, family wellbeing, and community resources.
  • Encourage respectful, compassionate, trauma-informed, and evidence-informed public dialogue.
  • Ensure educational initiatives remain aligned with applicable charitable regulations.

 

Facility, Property & Organizational Development

The Executive Director shall:

  • Oversee stewardship, maintenance, safety, and development of facilities and assets.
  • Monitor facility needs and support long-term property planning.
  • Coordinate capital improvements, renovations, relocations, and facility development projects as the Board approves.
  • Support facility acquisition, expansion, and organizational growth initiatives.
  • Ensure facilities remain functional, safe, welcoming, and aligned with ministry needs.

 

Organizational Capacity Building

The Executive Director shall:

  • Build and strengthen systems, leadership structures, policies, procedures, partnerships, facilities, revenue streams, and ministry infrastructure that support long-term sustainability.
  • Evaluate organizational vulnerabilities, opportunities, and emerging needs.
  • Implement strategies that improve effectiveness, resilience, efficiency, and ministry impact.
  • Ensure growth remains sustainable and mission-aligned.

The Executive Director shall maintain an intentional balance between:

This framework is a flexible guideline and may vary based on organizational priorities, accreditation requirements, facility needs, emergencies, staffing realities, and ministry opportunities.

 

Qualifications

The successful candidate will:

  • Be a committed Christian who demonstrates a personal relationship with Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to the sanctity of all human life.
  • Affirm and support the Mission, Vision, Statement of Faith, Statement of Principles, Core Values, Sanctity of Human Life Position, Commitment of Care and Competence, Core Documents, and organizational policies.
  • Possess a Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience in nonprofit leadership, ministry, management, social services, business administration, or a related field.
  • Demonstrate significant leadership experience within nonprofit, ministry, charitable, or community-service environments.
  • Demonstrate experience working with Boards of Directors.
  • Possess experience in fundraising, financial management, governance, donor relationships, strategic planning, and organizational leadership.
  • Demonstrate experience leading organizational growth and change.
  • Demonstrate strong communication, leadership, relationship-building, and problem-solving skills.
  • Maintain a valid driver's licence.
  • Successfully complete a Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check.
